How does Neugalin 25mg Capsule work?

Its mechanism of action involves reducing abnormal electrical activity in the brain, and preventing seizures. Additionally, it is employed to alleviate nerve and muscle pain by interfering with pain signals within damaged nerves and the brain.

Side Effects of Neugalin 25mg Capsule

Common adverse effects include dizziness, somnolence, dry mouth, edema, blurred vision, weight gain, and aberrant thinking.

Quick Suggestions:

• Avoid alcohol, as it may intensify dizziness, increasing the risk of injuries, falls, or accidents.
• Do not use Neugalin 25mg Capsule without consulting your doctor if pregnant or breastfeeding. Women of childbearing age should use suitable contraceptives to prevent pregnancy during therapy.
• Exercise caution in elderly patients, particularly those with kidney problems.
• Regularly monitor blood sugar levels, as Neugalin 25mg Capsule may alter them.
• It may cause weight gain, particularly in diabetic patients. Consult your doctor if it becomes bothersome.

Indications:

• Management of neuropathic pain associated with diabetic peripheral neuropathy.
• Management of post-herpetic neuralgia.
• Adjunctive therapy for adult patients with partial onset seizures.
• Management of fibromyalgia.
• Neuropathic pain associated with spinal cord injury.

Pharmacology

Pregabalin, a derivative of the inhibitory neurotransmitter gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), exhibits high affinity to the alpha-2-delta subunit of voltage-gated calcium channels in the central nervous system. With an oral bioavailability of ≥90%, it is eliminated from the systemic circulation primarily through renal excretion. The elimination half-life is approximately 6.3 hours in subjects with normal renal function.

Dosage & Administration of Neugalin 25mg Capsule

• Neuropathic pain associated with diabetic peripheral neuropathy: Start at 50 mg three times a day, may increase to 300 mg/day.
• Post-herpetic neuralgia: Initiate at 75 mg two times a day, may increase to 300 mg/day.
• Adjunctive therapy for partial-onset seizures: The recommended maximum dose is 600 mg/day.
• Management of fibromyalgia: Begin with 75 mg two times a day, may increase to 300 mg/day.
• Neuropathic pain associated with spinal cord injury: Recommended dose range is 150 to 600 mg/day.

Interaction

Pregabalin shows no significant interactions with other antiepileptic drugs or oral contraceptives. Ethanol and lorazepam effects may be potentiated by pregabalin.

Contraindications

Avoid in patients with known hypersensitivity to pregabalin or its components.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Category C; use during pregnancy only if benefits outweigh risks. Passes into breast milk; use in nursing mothers if benefits outweigh risks.

Precautions & Warnings

Withdraw gradually to avoid insomnia, nausea, headaches, and diarrhea. Monitor creatinine kinase levels, and discontinue if myopathy is suspected.
